Useful aviation links.

Postby Szymon Kurzacz on Mon Feb 08, 2010 12:30

I thought i would share some of my quite useful links for aviation in general. Some are goldmine for cockpit builders, other may just improve some flying experience.

Let's play:

Smart Cockpit
http://www.smartcockpit.com
Site mostly for cockpit builders, but can be very useful also for designing virtual cockpits or upgrading existing ones, including some basic instrument functionality.
Inside You can find detailed information about various airplanes. Basic information can include cockpit layouts, basic instrument look and feel, including information how instruments behave during their operation - or simply what will happen after switching specified switch. Sometimes there are checklist and other detailer operation manuals about diffrent planes.

ICAO Aircraft Codes
http://www.flugzeuginfo.net/table_accodes_en.php
Simple list of all ICAO aircraft identification codes, witch is usefull mostly during filling flightplan and identifying other pilots airplanes from flightplan. Also may be needed with next suggested site, witch is also useful.

Aircraft performance database
http://elearning.ians.lu/aircraftperformance/
For use of this site You should have at least part of aircraft type name. But faster search is with ICAO code. What this site gives? Complete performance data during each part of flight limited to general aircraft type. You can get basic V speeds, climbing and descending vertical speeds, mach and tas speeds for each part of flight, total range, minimums during landing (speed, visibility), information about aircraft class on airport (like xxxx airport is not suitable for D class airplanes)...

Great Circle Mapper
http://gc.kls2.com
First - simple mapper, but also provide some basic information about airports... Enter IATA or ICAO code to get information, or enter ICAO-ICAO to see great circle path.

RouteFinder
http://rfinder.asalink.net/free/
Site mostly for charter flights. It provide accurate flight routes for specified route (from - to) with specified AIRAC/Nav data cycle. Kind of "must have".

Airodyssey - Inflight passenger announcements
http://www.airodyssey.net/reference/inflight.html
Last one is mostly for "rpg". It lists diffrent pilot/flight attendant announced made during diffrent parts of flight, including some emergency ones. So basically, You can print and/or learn some and make some announcements for pasasengers during flight - just to be more realistic.

Thanks a lot - definitely helpful stuff, Szymon!

And a good idea to start such a thread - you can also benefit from the link below:
http://walhalla.mine.nu/fs2004.php
A list of freeware FS9 sceneries. Some files at avsim may not be available due to the hack attack and the server outage some time ago, but some of them are still there. 8)
